Job Summary
Position can be at a higher level commensurate with experience. This position is based in Westborough, MA
Defend insureds in law suits for the entire litigation process from initial pleadings through discovery, motion practice, expert discovery, arbitration, mediation and trial. Prepare and argue appeals. Evaluate cases and negotiate settlements. Assist in advising the Claims Department and Company on various legal issues related to insurance claims. Represent the Company at Uninsured and Underinsured arbitration hearings. Proficient knowledge of the Rules of Evidence, Rules of Civil Procedure and all basics of litigation required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Education: J.D. from an accredited Law School and admission to the Bar in jurisdiction(s) in which the office is located and practices is required.
Experience: Minimum 6 years of relevant tort litigation experience required including District Court trial experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Required
- Analyze cases for settlement value. Negotiate with opposing counsel
- Provide legal advice to Claim Representatives on various insurance and tort issues
- Participate in the preparation and presentation of seminars on legal issues for the Claims Department staff.
- Prior insurance defense or tort litigation experience is required. Experience with independently managing litigated cases from inception to conclusion is required. Trial experience required.
