Join our dynamic legal team and play a critical role in defending insured clients throughout the entire litigation process—from initial pleadings through discovery, motion practice, arbitration, mediation, trial, and appeal. If you lack trial experience, you’ll have the opportunity to work closely with senior counsel to prepare and try cases, gaining invaluable courtroom exposure. You will evaluate cases, negotiate settlements, and provide strategic legal advice to the Claims Department and the Company on complex insurance-related issues. Additionally, you’ll represent the Company at Uninsured and Underinsured arbitration hearings. A strong understanding of the Rules of Evidence, Rules of Civil Procedure, and litigation fundamentals is essential for success in this role.
What You’ll Do
- Represent insureds in lawsuits from start to finish, including pleadings, discovery, and trial preparation.
- Draft initial pleadings, conduct and defend depositions, prepare written discovery, perform legal research, and argue motions.
- Attend court hearings, handle arbitration hearings and mediations, and collaborate with senior attorneys on trial preparation.
- Manage a caseload independently from inception to resolution, primarily handling District Court cases.
- Prepare timely, comprehensive reports for the Claims Department in accordance with company guidelines.
- Provide legal counsel to Claims Representatives on insurance and tort issues.
- Maintain consistent communication with clients throughout litigation.
- Participate in arbitration hearings for uninsured and underinsured claims.
- Identify opportunities to improve litigation strategies and outcomes.
Qualifications
- Education: J.D. from an accredited law school and admission to the Bar in the jurisdiction(s) where the office operates.
- Experience: 0–4 years of litigation experience.
- Prior civil litigation experience preferred but not required.
- Insurance industry experience preferred but not required.
- Trial experience preferred but not required.
- Strong knowledge of Rules of Evidence, Rules of Civil Procedure, and litigation fundamentals.
- Ability to manage cases independently and work collaboratively with senior counsel.

Pay Philosophy: The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by several factors including skills, experience, education, certifications, and location. Some roles at MAPFRE are eligible for commission and/or bonus earnings, in addition to salary, calculated based upon factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.
Salary Range $92,000 - $131,000
