Summary

 

We are seeking a Personal Lines Underwriting Supervisor to lead a team, support profitable growth, and strengthen underwriting quality within our Personal Lines Department.  In this role you will Supervise one underwriting unit within the Personal Lines Underwriting Department; plan and monitor the timely and accurate completion of the unit's responsibilities. Monitor the acceptability and profitability of the business produced by the agencies assigned to the unit's underwriters, take corrective actions when necessary. Assume responsibility, as assigned, for monitoring the underwriting experience for a particular line of business. Provide technical underwriting direction and assistance to the unit in regard to complex functions. Identify, analyze, and implement underwriting system and procedure changes to improve the department's effectiveness/efficiency. Oversee the career development of the unit's staff. Assure that the unit's functions are performed within established underwriting guidelines and standards. Coordinate the timely and professional preparation and distribution of relevant agency force informational/instructional materials.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Performs as a member of the Personal Lines Department management team, providing departmental-wide assistance/input to assure that the department's objectives are successfully achieved.
  • Assume a leadership role at department staff meetings to assure that all relevant options are discussed and the best alternative/option selected.
  • Supervises one underwriting unit within the Personal Lines Underwriting Department.
  • Plans, directs and monitors their efforts to assure the timely and accurate completion of all assigned responsibilities in accordance with departmental objectives.
  • Monitors directly or through professional staff the acceptability of the business produced by the agencies, makes recommendations and takes corrective actions when necessary.
  • Monitors directly or through professional staff the acceptability of the business accepted and rejected by the underwriting and services departments, makes recommendations and takes corrective actions when necessary.
  • Monitors directly or through professional staff the timeliness and accuracy of service provided by the underwriting and services departments to agencies and other departments.
  • Analyzes, recommends and implements improvements in guidelines, systems and procedures.
  • Identifies individual and department-wide training needs in the underwriting and services departments.
  • Identifies training resources.
  • Coordinates training efforts.
  • Administers Mapfre Insurance's personnel policies including making recommendations for hiring, performance reviews, merit reviews, promotions, transfers and terminations.
  • Provides career counseling.
  • Serves on strategy committees and other intra and interdepartmental committees to improve the operation of the department and the company.

 Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor's Degree or professional level of knowledge in a specialized field, or equivalent related experience preferred.
  • 4 - 6 years or Associates Degree equivalent plus 6 - 8 years.
  • Demonstrates ability to exercise business judgement, effective oral and written communications, sales and negotiations skills, analytical skills and time management. Prior experience in an underwriting position is required. CPCU and/or Mapfre Insurance preferred.

 

 

 

Pay Philosophy: The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by several factors including skills, experience, education, certifications, and location. Some roles at Mapfre are eligible for commission and/or bonus earnings, in addition to salary, calculated based upon factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.

 

 

Salary Range $77,700 - $98,500
