Summary
Responsibilities
- Performs as a member of the Personal Lines Department management team, providing departmental-wide assistance/input to assure that the department's objectives are successfully achieved.
- Assume a leadership role at department staff meetings to assure that all relevant options are discussed and the best alternative/option selected.
- Supervises one underwriting unit within the Personal Lines Underwriting Department.
- Plans, directs and monitors their efforts to assure the timely and accurate completion of all assigned responsibilities in accordance with departmental objectives.
- Monitors directly or through professional staff the acceptability of the business produced by the agencies, makes recommendations and takes corrective actions when necessary.
- Monitors directly or through professional staff the acceptability of the business accepted and rejected by the underwriting and services departments, makes recommendations and takes corrective actions when necessary.
- Monitors directly or through professional staff the timeliness and accuracy of service provided by the underwriting and services departments to agencies and other departments.
- Analyzes, recommends and implements improvements in guidelines, systems and procedures.
- Identifies individual and department-wide training needs in the underwriting and services departments.
- Identifies training resources.
- Coordinates training efforts.
- Administers Mapfre Insurance's personnel policies including making recommendations for hiring, performance reviews, merit reviews, promotions, transfers and terminations.
- Provides career counseling.
- Serves on strategy committees and other intra and interdepartmental committees to improve the operation of the department and the company.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or professional level of knowledge in a specialized field, or equivalent related experience preferred.
- 4 - 6 years or Associates Degree equivalent plus 6 - 8 years.
- Demonstrates ability to exercise business judgement, effective oral and written communications, sales and negotiations skills, analytical skills and time management. Prior experience in an underwriting position is required. CPCU and/or Mapfre Insurance preferred.
Pay Philosophy: The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by several factors including skills, experience, education, certifications, and location. Some roles at Mapfre are eligible for commission and/or bonus earnings, in addition to salary, calculated based upon factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.
Salary Range $77,700 - $98,500
