Software Engineer - Guidewire Policy Center

Build the Future of Insurance Technology

Mapfre is seeking a Software Engineer to join our Guidewire PolicyCenter and Policy Lifecycle engineering team. This role will contribute to the design, development, testing, deployment, and support of capabilities that enable quoting, underwriting, policy issuance, endorsements, renewals, cancellations, reinstatements, and customer servicing.

The ideal candidate has a foundation in software engineering, an interest in Property and Casualty insurance technology, and a willingness to build expertise in Guidewire PolicyCenter and Guidewire Cloud. Prior Guidewire experience is preferred but not required for candidates with strong Java, object-oriented programming, configuration, integration, or enterprise application development experience.

You will work closely with experienced engineers, Product Managers, Architects, Quality Engineers, Business Analysts, and business partners to deliver secure, maintainable, and reliable policy administration solutions.

What You’ll Do

Develop PolicyCenter Solutions

• Design, develop, configure, test, deploy, and support solutions within Guidewire PolicyCenter.
• Implement application changes using Gosu, Java, PolicyCenter configuration, business rules, entities, typelists, and PCF components.
• Contribute to capabilities supporting:
  • Product configuration and product model changes
  • Quote, bind, and policy issuance
  • Underwriting rules and referrals
  • Endorsements and policy changes
  • Renewals, rewrites, cancellations, and reinstatements
  • Policy servicing
  • Rating and premium-related integrations
  • Customer and agent servicing
  • Regulatory and state-specific requirements
• Develop and maintain integrations between PolicyCenter and internal or external systems.
• Follow established Guidewire development standards and upgrade-safe implementation patterns.

Participate in the Software Development Lifecycle

• Review user stories, acceptance criteria, technical requirements, and solution designs.
• Ask questions and identify gaps, dependencies, assumptions, and potential technical impacts.
• Break assigned work into development tasks and provide estimates with support from senior team members.
• Participate in backlog refinement, sprint planning, daily stand-ups, demonstrations, and retrospectives.
• Complete assigned development work according to the team’s definition of done.
• Document technical changes, configuration decisions, dependencies, and operational considerations.
• Communicate progress, risks, and blockers in a timely manner.

Build Quality into Development

• Write clean, maintainable, secure, and testable code.
• Develop unit tests and support functional, automation, integration, regression, and end-to-end testing.
• Validate that implementations meet user-story acceptance criteria and technical requirements.
• Perform code reviews appropriate to experience level and incorporate feedback from senior engineers.
• Troubleshoot defects and determine whether issues originate in application configuration, custom code, integrations, data, or environment setup.
• Work with Quality Engineers to prepare test data, analyze failures, and resolve defects.
• Follow established coding standards, security requirements, quality gates, and source-control practices.

Support Integrations and Cloud Delivery

• Develop or support PolicyCenter integrations using REST APIs, messaging, events, files, and other approved integration patterns.
• Work with JSON, XML, and data mappings used in communication with internal and external systems.
• Support deployment validation and application testing in Guidewire Cloud environments.
• Assist with remediation work associated with Guidewire Cloud releases and platform updates.
• Learn and apply Guidewire Cloud development, deployment, testing, and operational practices.

Support Production and Operational Excellence

• Monitor and support PolicyCenter applications and related integrations.
• Investigate application errors, failed transactions, integration issues, and unexpected business results.
• Review logs and available monitoring information to support troubleshooting.
• Participate in root-cause analysis with guidance from senior engineers.
• Implement defect fixes and preventive improvements.
• Support production releases, stabilization, and validation activities.
• Maintain support documentation, runbooks, and troubleshooting information.
• Participate in an on-call or production-support rotation when required.

 Learn and Grow

• Build knowledge of Guidewire PolicyCenter, Guidewire Cloud, and the Policy Lifecycle domain.
• Learn Property and Casualty insurance concepts, products, transactions, and business processes.
• Complete assigned Guidewire training and pursue relevant certifications.
• Seek feedback through design discussions, code reviews, defect reviews, and delivery retrospectives.
• Share technical knowledge and lessons learned with other team members.
• Develop increasing ownership of features and technical components over time.
• Stay current with software engineering practices, cloud technologies, automation, and Guidewire product capabilities.

What You’ll Bring

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Software development experience using Java, Gosu, C#, or another object-oriented programming language.
• Understanding of object-oriented design and software development principles.
• Experience developing, configuring, testing, or supporting enterprise applications.
• Basic understanding of REST APIs, web services, integrations, or asynchronous messaging.
• Experience with XML, JSON, SQL, or relational data models.
• Familiarity with Git-based source control and collaborative development practices.
• Understanding of unit testing, debugging, defect resolution, and code-review practices.
• Ability to analyze requirements and translate them into maintainable technical implementations.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Ability to learn new platforms, business domains, and development frameworks.
• Experience working in an Agile or iterative software delivery environment.

Nice to have Qualifications

• Experience with Guidewire PolicyCenter development, configuration, or production support.
• Experience using Gosu, PolicyCenter Studio, PCF files, entities, typelists, business rules, or the Guidewire product model.
• Guidewire PolicyCenter Associate certification or progress toward a relevant Guidewire certification.
• Experience with Guidewire Cloud Platform.
• Understanding of Policy Lifecycle activities, including:
  • Quote and bind
  • Underwriting
  • Policy issuance
  • Endorsements
  • Renewals
  • Cancellations
  • Reinstatements
  • Policy servicing
• Experience developing or testing REST APIs and enterprise integrations.
• Familiarity with BillingCenter, ClaimCenter, ContactManager, rating platforms, data platforms, or digital channels.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, GitHub or Bitbucket, automated testing, and release-management practices.
• Familiarity with AWS or other cloud technologies.
• Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Datadog or Splunk.
• Property and Casualty insurance experience.
• Experience supporting business-critical production applications.

Pay Philosophy: The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by several factors including skills, experience, education, certifications, and location. Some roles at Mapfre are eligible for commission and/or bonus earnings, in addition to salary, calculated based upon factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.

Salary Range: $80,000 - $135,000
