Lead the Future of Insurance Technology – PolicyCenter Engineering Leader
Mapfre is seeking a Senior Technical Engineering Leader to provide technical leadership for our Guidewire PolicyCenter platform and Policy Lifecycle ecosystem. This role will be instrumental in driving the architecture, design, development, and modernization of critical policy administration capabilities that support product configuration, quoting, underwriting, policy issuance, endorsements, renewals, cancellations, and customer servicing experiences.
This position is ideal for an experienced technical leader who combines deep Guidewire expertise, insurance domain knowledge, and strong engineering leadership abilities. You will partner with Product Managers, Architects, Business Leaders, and Engineering teams to deliver scalable, secure, and innovative solutions that power MAPFRE's policy administration operations.
What You'll Do
Provide Technical Leadership
- Serve as the technical leader for Guidewire PolicyCenter and Policy Lifecycle initiatives.
- Lead architecture and technical design discussions for new capabilities, enhancements, integrations, cloud modernization efforts, and product implementations.
- Establish engineering standards, development best practices, upgrade-safe design patterns, and architectural direction.
- Drive technical decision-making while balancing business priorities, scalability, security, maintainability, and operational excellence.
- Act as a trusted advisor to Product, Architecture, and Business stakeholders.
Design & Deliver Policy Solutions
- Design, develop, test, deploy, and support enterprise-scale solutions within Guidewire PolicyCenter.
- Lead development efforts supporting:
- Product configuration and product model enhancements
- Quoting and rating integrations
- Underwriting workflows and rule management
- Policy issuance and policy servicing
- Endorsements and policy changes
- Renewals, rewrites, reinstatements, and cancellations
- Customer and agent servicing capabilities
- Regulatory and state-specific product implementations
- Architect and implement integrations between PolicyCenter and internal/external platforms.
- Ensure solutions meet performance, security, reliability, compliance, and audit requirements.
Drive Platform Modernization
- Lead initiatives focused on Guidewire Cloud adoption, automation, API enablement, and platform modernization.
- Identify opportunities to reduce technical debt and simplify architecture.
- Evaluate and leverage emerging technologies, including AI, automation, cloud-native services, and engineering productivity tools.
- Improve application scalability, observability, resilience, and release readiness.
Mentor & Develop Engineering Talent
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring to software engineers and senior engineers.
- Conduct architecture reviews, code reviews, and design reviews.
- Foster a culture of engineering excellence, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Coach teams on Guidewire best practices, Agile delivery, DevOps, cloud engineering, and quality engineering.
- Develop technical capabilities and Guidewire expertise across the team.
Collaborate Across the Enterprise
- Partner closely with Product Managers, Technical Product Managers, Architects, QA, Business Analysts, Underwriting, Operations, Customer Service, and Business stakeholders.
- Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Support Agile planning, backlog refinement, estimation, and release activities.
- Collaborate with BillingCenter, ClaimsCenter, Agent Portal, Digital, Data, and Integration teams.
- Communicate technical strategies, risks, and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Support Operational Excellence
- Ensure platform availability, reliability, performance, and supportability.
- Utilize observability and monitoring tools to proactively identify and resolve issues.
- Lead root cause analysis and remediation efforts for critical production incidents.
- Support Guidewire Cloud releases, upgrades, and stabilization activities.
- Maintain architecture documentation, technical standards, and system diagrams.
What You'll Bring
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
- 6+ years of software engineering experience with enterprise applications.
- 3+ years of technical leadership experience leading engineering teams or large-scale technology initiatives.
- Strong experience with Guidewire PolicyCenter development, configuration, and integrations.
- Strong experience developing solutions using Java, Gosu, and object-oriented design principles.
- Experience designing and implementing enterprise integration solutions and distributed systems.
- Demonstrated success leading complex technical projects from concept through production deployment.
- Strong understanding of Agile development methodologies and engineering best practices.
- Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction across teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Guidewire PolicyCenter implementation and development experience.
- Guidewire ACE or Professional certifications strongly preferred.
- Deep understanding of Insurance Policy Lifecycle processes, including:
- Product Configuration
- Quote and Bind
- Underwriting
- Policy Issuance
- Endorsements
- Renewals
- Cancellations
- Reinstatements
- Policy Servicing
- Experience with Guidewire Cloud Platform (GWCP).
- Experience with Product Model, Rules Engine, Rating Integrations, and PolicyCenter APIs.
- Experience integrating PolicyCenter with BillingCenter, ClaimsCenter, Earnix, Data Platforms, and Digital Channels.
- Experience with AWS cloud technologies and cloud-native architectures.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, GitHub, DevOps practices, automated testing frameworks, and release engineering.
- Experience with observability platforms such as Datadog and Splunk.
- Insurance industry experience strongly preferred.
- Experience supporting Guidewire Cloud migration, platform modernization, and digital transformation initiatives.

Pay Philosophy: The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by several factors including skills, experience, education, certifications, and location. Some roles at Mapfre are eligible for commission and/or bonus earnings, in addition to salary, calculated based upon factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.
Salary Range: $120,000 - $185,000
