Summary

 

The Personal Lines Underwriting Assistant supports the Underwriting team by evaluating new and renewal risks. Within delegated authority, reviews and approves underwriting referrals and property inspections for acceptability in accordance with company underwriting guidelines. Builds positive relationships with agents and team members to achieve department and company goals.

 

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Assists Underwriters with risk selection through analysis of information presented, obtaining additional information and clarification when necessary and approving risks within underwriting authority levels that meet established company guidelines, procedures, and philosophies. Handles wide variety of transactions including but not limited to new business submissions, property inspections, endorsements, and renewals. Collaborates with underwriters on risks that exceed their authority.
  • Underwriting liaison for Assigned Risk Producers (ARP) agents and CA Protection Brokers. Handles phone calls and referrals related to ARP and CA Protection accounts and policies within established authority levels.
  • Identifies and communicates to the Underwriter and/or Supervisor, any adverse trends, or behaviors of individual agencies’ and/or agency personnel’s submissions and requests.
  • Evaluates property inspection reports to identify and address underwriting hazards, confirm the accurate application of surcharges and support insurance to value efforts.
  • Develops knowledge of and relationships with agents through daily phone and email communication and interactions.
  • Provide daily support to underwriting staff by responding to oral and written inquiries.
  • Provide underwriters assistance during periods of absence e.g. agency visits, paid time off.
  • Learns how to effectively communicate and interpret policy language, endorsements, coverage, and company philosophies. Develops knowledge of company products, pricing, underwriting guidelines, and philosophies. Participates in developmental training courses, identified by the Underwriting Management Team, to expand/enhance job knowledge.

  • Assist with and/or handle other duties and special projects as assigned by supervisor or manager.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Associates Degree or Technical or specialized knowledge or equivalent, related experience.
  • 1 - 3 years.
  • Prior experience in Personal Lines Insurance. Effective oral and written communication skills, analytical skills, and effective time management. Completion of, or willingness to pursue Insurance related courses such as Introduction to Insurance, AINS or API. Ability to communicate with customers, exercise judgment and negotiate in routine business situations.

Pay Philosophy: The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by several factors including skills, experience, education, certifications, and location. Some roles at Mapfre are eligible for commission and/or bonus earnings, in addition to salary, calculated based upon factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.

 

 

Salary Range $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
