Intern - Business Process Engineering (Summer 2027)

Summary
Mapfre is seeking a highly motivated and intellectually curious college student to join our Transformation Office Ways of Working team for a 10-week summer internship from June 7 to August 13, 2027, in Webster, Massachusetts. This opportunity provides hands-on experience supporting enterprise process management, business architecture, process mining, and transformation initiatives designed to improve how work is understood, measured, governed, and improved across the organization.
The intern will work alongside business process, architecture, analytics, and transformation professionals to document and analyze business processes, develop practical process and capability artifacts, support performance measurement, and contribute to repeatable Ways of Working methods used across enterprise initiatives. The role is well suited for a student who enjoys systems thinking, structured problem-solving, data-informed analysis, and translating complex information into clear recommendations and visual deliverables.
What You’ll Do
- Support the development and maintenance of business process models, process maps, customer journeys, capability models, and related transformation artifacts.
- Assist with current-state process analysis to identify handoffs, rework, bottlenecks, control gaps, customer or employee friction, and opportunities for improvement.
- Help organize and analyze operational data and process performance measures to identify trends, test hypotheses, and support fact-based recommendations.
- Support process mining activities, including preparing business context, validating process findings, and translating analytical insights into clear business observations.
- Contribute to the development of Ways of Working templates, playbooks, standards, governance materials, and reusable guidance for program owners and cross-functional teams.
- Conduct research and benchmarking on process management, process engineering, business architecture, continuous improvement, automation, and AI-enabled ways of working.
- Assist in evaluating improvement, automation, and AI use cases by documenting the business problem, process impacts, requirements, expected value, and implementation considerations.
- Participate in stakeholder interviews and working sessions; capture decisions, assumptions, dependencies, risks, and follow-up actions.
- Create executive-ready presentations, process visualizations, analytical summaries, and other communications for business and technology stakeholders.
- Complete a defined summer project and present findings, recommendations, and proposed next steps to Transformation Office leadership.
- Participate in networking, training, and professional development activities offered through the Mapfre Summer Internship Program.
What We’re looking for
Education
Current enrollment in a bachelor’s degree program as a rising junior or senior, OR current enrollment in a master’s degree program. Relevant areas of study may include Management Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, Operations Research, Business Analytics, Data Science, Information Systems, Computer Science, Organizational Leadership, Business Process Management, or a related field.
Required Knowledge & Skills
- Strong analytical, systems-thinking, problem-solving, and critical-thinking abilities.
- Ability to organize complex information, recognize patterns, and develop clear, evidence-based conclusions.
- Effective written, verbal, and visual communication skills, including the ability to explain analysis to varied audiences.
- Ability to work independently, ask thoughtful questions, and collaborate effectively in a cross-functional team environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, well-structured work.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
Preferred Qualifications
- Coursework or project experience in process design, process improvement, operations analysis, systems modeling, statistics, data analytics, or organizational design.
- Exposure to process mapping or modeling tools and methods, such as BPMN, value-stream mapping, journey mapping, or swimlane diagrams.
- Experience analyzing data and presenting findings through dashboards, visualizations, or executive-ready summaries.
- Familiarity with process mining, business architecture, continuous improvement, Lean, Six Sigma, automation, or AI-enabled analysis.
- Experience with tools such as ARIS, Celonis, Power BI, Visio, or comparable platforms is a plus but not required.

Pay Transparency: The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by several factors including skills, experience, education, certifications, and location. Some roles at Mapfre are eligible for commission and/or bonus earnings, in addition to salary, calculated based upon factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.
Hourly Range: $29.00 - $31.00
