Data Product Owner
Webster, MA, US
Summary:
Mapfre USA is building a unified, trusted, and governed view of all people and organizations—policyholders, drivers, claimants, agents/partners, and vendors—used across Policy, Billing, Claims, and CRM systems.
As the Data Product Owner, you will define the product strategy, roadmap, and iterative delivery approach to bring this enterprise master data capability to life. You will translate complex business processes and system behaviors into rigorous, testable data product requirements and ensure measurable outcomes every sprint and Program Increment (PI).
This product is delivered using Agile methodologies with continuous discovery, sprint-based delivery, and quarterly PIs. Success is defined by the incremental value realized by the business consumers of this master data capability.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain an incremental delivery roadmap aligned to underwriting, claims, billing, distribution, and customer experience value streams.
- Continuously refine the roadmap through discovery, experimentation, stakeholder feedback, and PI outcomes.
- Prioritize delivery based on business value, domain use cases, and technical dependencies in partnership with Domain Stewards (DS) and Domain Owners (DO).
- Serve as the primary liaison between business and technology teams to elicit, refine, and validate requirements.
- Conduct impact analysis sessions to understand how changes affect data flows, UI applications, and downstream systems.
- Facilitate consensus on acceptance criteria; coordinate UAT and data validation to ensure increments meet expectations.
- Translate business data flows and system behaviors (Guidewire, CRM, claims, billing) into clear epics, user stories, and acceptance criteria for MDM capabilities including matching, survivorship, data quality rules, and contracts.
- Prioritize the backlog using value‑based metrics such as business impact, risk, cost of delay, and technical dependencies.
- Collaborate with Data Stewards, Legal, and Security to ensure alignment with access, consent, privacy, and retention policies.
- Maintain auditability and ensure adherence to corporate governance standards.
- Define and track product health indicators such as data quality, duplicate rate, match/merge accuracy, and adoption.
- Communicate progress, risks, and outcomes to stakeholders each sprint and PI.
- Break down large initiatives into small, testable, high‑value increments.
- Facilitate Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, reviews, retrospectives, and PI planning.
- Remove impediments, manage dependencies, and promote continuous improvement.
- Coach teams on definition of ready/done, Agile practices, and test-driven data requirements (DQ checks, contract tests).
- Improve delivery flow using actionable metrics (cycle time, throughput, predictability) while preserving team focus.
- Collaborate with Data Engineering and Architecture on pipelines (batch & streaming), eventing, API gateways, and non-functional requirements such as scalability and performance.
- Define and maintain MDM policies including source precedence, survivorship rules, and hierarchy/household logic.
- Establish the data stewardship operating model, including roles, queues, SLAs, and operational dashboards.
Qualifications:
- 3–7+ years as a Product Owner / Data Product Owner delivering data products in Agile teams; demonstrable ability to own backlog, write stories/ACs, and define product KPIs.
- Proven experience translating complex data & engineering requirements (modeling, governance, cloud data platforms) into prioritized, actionable work; strong stakeholder partnership.
- Hands-on with data modeling, lineage/metadata, and data quality; able to read/write SQL and collaborate on test cases and contract tests for “definition of done.”
- Experience with MDM/Client-360 concepts—identity matching/merging, survivorship, hierarchies, stewardship—and with at least one enterprise MDM platform (e.g., Informatica Customer 360, or Reltio).
- Scrum Master capability: facilitated Agile ceremonies and improved delivery flow for a cross-functional squad.
- Property & Casualty insurance background; familiarity with Guidewire and core policy/billing/claims data flows.
- Experience defining data contracts (APIs/events/batch), SLAs, and observability (DQ monitors, lineage, usage).
- Certifications: CSPO/PSPO and PSM/SSM (or equivalent); DAMA/CDMP; vendor MDM certifications.
