Job Summary

 

MAPFRE Insurance is looking to add an energetic Underwriter to our Commercial Auto CAR (Commonwealth Automobile Reinsurers) team.  We are looking for an individual who prides themselves on efficiently managing risk selection for both new and/or renewal business in an assigned Commercial Lines underwriting territory for Limited Servicing Carrier/ERP Agents.  An appreciation for technology and streamlining processes will help us maintain our position as one of the four assigned Limited Servicing Carriers in Massachusetts.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with agents
  • Communicate effectively, providing prompt and professional service
  • Accept, decline or provide alternatives for risks reviewed and exercise judgment in pricing acceptable risks and binding the company to exposures
  • Manage and underwrite assigned book of business to meet financial objectives and corporate strategies
  • Provide input and data to help drive and implement strategic underwriting initiatives
  • Comply with all CAR Rules, Procedures and Rating Requirements as established by the Commonwealth Automobile Reinsurers and as defined in the Limited Servicing Carrier Program
  • Provide technical assistance and training for staff regarding CAR rules and identification of red flags associated with fraud and means to validate eligibility
  • Develop and maintain strong internal relationships within the Underwriting Department and other business areas such as Business Development, Claims, Services, and the Special Investigating Unit (SIU)
  • Maintain appropriate underwriting file documentation

 

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor's Degree or professional level of knowledge in a specialized field, or equivalent related experience
  • 2 - 4 years’ experience or associate’s degree equivalent plus 4 - 6 years
  • Prior commercial lines (processing, underwriting, etc.) experience preferred
  • Ability to investigate, gather facts and information and analyze coverage
  • Holding or pursuing industry designations and certificates is desirable
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including negotiation, presentation and influence skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other software products
  • Effective analytical, time management and problem-solving skills
  • An innovative and continuous improvement mindset
  • A positive, professional, and collaborative service attitude, with a strong commitment to quality and excellence
