Job Summary
Position can be Hybrid (2 days in Office/3 days Remote) in our Webster or Boston, MA Office or Remote
The Claim Consultant works with a high level of independence handling high exposure claims and litigation potentially in multiple lines of coverage (e.g. Personal/Commercial, Homeowner liability, Environmental, Life and OTA losses to include GL).
The individual will be responsible for all components of the adjustment process including: multi-jurisdictional coverage analysis, liability and damage investigation, claim evaluation, negotiation and litigation/arbitration management with a demonstrated ability to properly manage expenses.
Appropriate adjuster licensing and/or the ability to obtain licenses in states serviced by the corporation is required.
Frequent oral and written communication with customers is required and should be timely and professional. Must be able to interact with defense counsel and be an active participant in the handling and settlement of assigned cases. May participate in the training of other claims personnel.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Education: Bachelor's plus Certificate, e.g. INS 21, 22, 23, or equivalent, related experience.
Experience: 4 - 6 years - or Associates Degree equivalent plus 6 - 8 years.
Knowledge: Complete understanding and knowledge of industry practices, standards, and concepts within field of work. Applies them to perform or lead work requiring extensive analytical business skills.
Decision Making: Makes decisions related to a wide variety of situations within management limits. Interprets guidelines and procedures, applying judgment and discretion. Decisions influence portions of a project, client relationships and/or expenditures.
Supervision Received: Works independently under general supervision. Work is reviewed for overall adequacy in performing tasks.
Leadership: Provides guidance and training to less experienced staff as needed. Takes a lead role in group, team or project.
Problem Solving /Operations/Direct Work Involvement: Applies knowledge to determine solutions to complex problems with minimal direction. Uses research and analysis to develop innovative and practical solutions which are consistent with organizational objectives.
Client Contacts: Manages internal and external relationships. Represents organization as prime contact for projects and other necessary communications. Interaction may include senior internal and external personnel on significant matters often requiring complex coordination between organizations. Communication involves persuasion and negotiation, as applicable. Seeks ways of improving client service.
Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Bachelor's plus Certificate, e.g. I INS 21, 22, 23 SCLA, AIC, CPCU or equivalent, related experience.
A minimum of five (5) years claims technical experience is needed, to include bodily injury and litigation claims handling or equivalent. Mastery of multiple lines of business written by the company. This position also requires a working knowledge of multi-state policies.
Strong organizational, negotiations, analytical, and decision making skills normally required.
Experience in handling multi-state losses, environmental and SIU experience a plus. Paralegal and law degree a plus.
