Summary

 

Responsible for the input of all general ledger journal entries and monthly ledger interfaces. Preparation and balancing of Fixed Asset system inputs which includes recording of purchases, disposals, and depreciation of fixed assets for all companies. Assist IFRS reporting unit by preparing management reports and analyses as assigned. Prepare general ledger journal entries and account reconciliations as assigned. Perform various financial accounting support, backup functions and special projects. Participate in software upgrades and maintenance projects. Initiate efficiencies with management approval.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Responsible for timely, accurate input of all general ledger entries into the general ledger for all Mapfre Insurance companies and the distribution of essential reports.
  • Under the guidance of management, prepare necessary journal entries and workpapers.
  • Prepare, analyze, and distribute various assigned workpapers upon Management request.
  • Responsible for all activities associated with Fixed Asset Accounting including but not limited to: * Journalizing all activity monthly/quarterly. * Preparation of various management reports. * All functions relating to Company car registrations, purchases and sales.
  • Assist all areas of the Finance Dept. by providing information as needed for financial statement preparation and performing analysis that is included in the Company's internal and external reports.
  • Perform monthly reconciliations and analysis of assigned General Ledger accounts to verify balances and provide a more detailed itemization of account contents.
  • Develop and maintain procedures manual for all current job functions for training and backup purposes.
  • Perform special projects and assist in team projects as assigned including those based upon requests from other departments.
  • Continually review department techniques and work flow for the purpose of making suggestions for enhancements, improvements and automating tasks which will have time and cost saving consequences.
  • Communicate with and provide information to internal/external auditors and insurance department examiners as required.
  • Incorporate "Caring in Everything We Do" into the daily performance of job responsibilities.
  • Assume additional responsibilities as requested.
  • Management has identified this position to require essential personnel. In the case of severe weather or other emergency situations, specific key individuals who are in this position will be required to report to work, regardless of the company being closed.

 

Qualifications

 

  • High School or equivalent knowledge or related experience.
  • 4 - 6 years or High School equivalent plus 5 - 7 years.
  • Must have a solid understanding of accounting terms.
  • Requires attention to detail and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Excel, Microsoft Word, analytical experience and PC skills necessary.

Pay Philosophy: The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by several factors including skills, experience, education, certifications, and location. Some roles at Mapfre are eligible for commission and/or bonus earnings, in addition to salary, calculated based upon factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.

 

Salary Range $45,000 - $64,000
