Job Summary


This position requires a high level of independence due to the extensive field work necessary to investigate, gather information, and adjust homeowner losses for claim operations involving all MAPFRE Insurance locations. This is a multi-state position in the New England area which will require developing a proficiency in interpreting, understanding and applying multiple policies and multi-jurisdictional claim handling requirements.

 

  • Work to control homeowner/property costs through the physical inspection of damaged real and personal property, or through assignment of task work to independent adjusting firms
  • Be responsible to maintain and control first and third party structural and contents losses through to a timely conclusion by the use of accurate assessments of the loss and the issuance of proper payments
  • Maintain an open alphabetical filing system; provide notes indicating the current status of files on the applicable MAPFRE Insurance system; interpret applicable policies and endorsements; apply technical knowledge to assigned losses; make prompt and accurate technical decisions and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Frequent in person contact with the public. Participate in CAT losses, and may also participate in the training of other claims personnel. Coordinates and implements 3rd party vendor relationships. Home office interaction with departments / department heads including Underwriting, Marketing, and Products & Pricing
  • Must be available for extended overnight travel to handle field losses, field visits and re-inspections of staff and independent appraisal firms, and/or Catastrophe Duty. Travel and field work may occur during both business and non-business hours, including weekdays and weekends. Performs other functions assigned to the position as necessary

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
 

Education: Bachelor's Degree or professional level of knowledge in a specialized field, or equivalent, related experience.
Experience: 4 - 6 years - or Associates Degree equivalent plus 6 - 8 years.
Knowledge: Complete understanding and knowledge of industry practices, standards, and concepts within field of work. Applies them to perform or lead work requiring extensive analytical business skills.

 

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

 

  • Ability to use and apply various software products including but not limited to: Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and property estimating programs
  • Must have a minimum of five years property adjusting experience, or Associates Degree equivalent plus 6-8 years. INS 21, 22, 23 preferred. Ability to interpret multiple state laws and regulations concerning Fair Claim Settlement statutes
  • Applicable adjuster state licenses required.
  • In addition, the individual should have a high level of initiative and self-motivation with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with high daily workloads.
  • The individual should possess strong business and other decision-making skills as well as have the ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality, display strong planning skills.
  • Working extended hours and weekends are required during severe storm volume situations.
